Train Company Lays on Taxis for Disabled5.16.54pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 15th Apr 2008 After Vincent Cable, MP, sought improvements for disabled residents trying to access Hampton Wick station, SW Trains has declined, on cost grounds, but, where a station like this does not have disabled access it will fund a taxi to one which does (Teddington or, soon, Kingston). Vincent Cable said: "SW Trains argue that the funding available from the government for improving stations like Hampton Wick. So they try to meet their legal obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act by offering a taxi service at no extra cost." "I hope disabled constituents are aware of this service. I suspect most aren't. But they should take advantage of it. None of us want to see disabled people rendered immobile because of lack of access to public transport".
