No Crossing for the Blind2.03.53pm GMT Wed 5th Mar 2008 Vincent Cable MP is appealing to Transport for London to provide funding that will make safe a dangerous crossing in Whitton for visually impaired people. At present the crossing - at the junctions of Powdermill, Hospital Bridge and Percy Roads - is perilous for anyone who is blind or has significant sight problems. Vincent Cable said: "I was visited by a constituent who is blind and who was almost killed recently in an accident at this junction. In order to make this junction safe, rotating cones need to be installed but these come at a cost of £60,000 and Transport for London, who fund such improvements, have not come up with the money for the next financial year starting in April. This is despite the fact that there is a legal requirement to make crossings safe for people with poor sight. "I have written to the Managing Director of Surface Transport, David Brown, asking him to look again at this decision and hopefully reverse it."
