Amin's Get the Curry House Vote

2.33.35pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 9th Aug 2005

Vincent Cable has sought to find out the most popular Indian restaurant in the Twickenham constituency as the local entry to the national 'Tiffin Cup'. Vincent Cable asked all the local Indian restaurants to obtain nominations from their customers. The winner was Amins of Heath Road, Twickenham narrowly followed by Twickenham Tandoori in Church Street and Tangawizi.

Vincent Cable said: "Quite a few restaurants took the competition seriously and, as a result, we have a finalist going forward for the final award. I can't vouch for the food but the popular entries certainly have some satisfied customers!"

Vincent Cable said that his own preference was for good, very spiced, south Indian cooking: "sadly the nearest Goan restaurant is in Putney and the increasingly popular Tamil food - Idils and Masal Dosars - is a long way away. But some of our local, mostly Bengali, restaurants are very good value."
